Disney in Ice - Toy Story 3 Review

I've been counting the days till this show. I could only wonder how they would turn a cartoon into a live ice skating show. I arrived to the Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA at least one hour before showtime, enough time to find our seats and wander around.
The night I went was the opening performance and it was sold out. The show was action packed and very entertaining. It lasted two hours with an intermission after an hour.

The show started out with Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy. They were telling bits and pieces of Toy Story and got everyone excited for the show to begin. They always make an appearance at every Disney on Ice Show. Just seeing those 4 characters got the kids smiling.

The show opens up with Andy and his boxed up toys that were sitting there waiting to be put away, but ends up getting donated to Sunny Side Daycare. Andy takes each toy and remembers every toy and talks about each and every one of them and then one by one they come to life.
Then Sarge comes out with his Bucket 'O Soldiers. A couple of soldiers come down by "parachute" down to the ice. Buzz made his entrance by flying in with his jet pack with sparks flying everywhere.

The next scene had a bunch of the other toys come out such as Hamm, Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head, Slinky Dog, 2 troll dolls, Rex, Bulls Eye, Jessie and Woody.
There's a lot of dance numbers and singing - and none of it is boring.
Rex's scene was when he spoke about his favorite video game, in which Buzz defeats Emperor Zurg. Truly a great action scene and it seemed to be a favorite with the kids.
The sound of Buzz's laser as he shot at Zurg was pretty cool.
One of my favorite scenes were those cute little aliens and their love for "The Claw". Black lights were used to emphasize the coloring and produced a nice glow. Skaters were on their knees as they came out, waddling from side to side. They later stood up to skate to music.

But my absolute favorite part was that of Barbie and Ken. First Barbie came out and then at least 10-12 more other Barbies came out and they did a entertaining dance number. As I looked closely at all the Barbie's skates, I noticed that the sides had high heels painted on - very nice touch.
The next scene quickly turns to when the toys were taken to Sunny Side Daycare and Lotso shows them around and takes them to the Butterfly Room.
This is when Ken meets Barbie and they skate together and he later shows Barbie all of his cool outfits, 4 of them if I could remember. Each time he grabs a new outfit from the rack he skates away from the audience and then a second later a Ken comes out wearing the same clothes from the rack. This part of the show was priceless, I was laughing. Ken is such a dork.

The dump truck that transports Lotso around the daycare was spot on to the movie.
The story continues on and kind of quickly to when they mess with Buzz's switches and he speaks Spanish. (see video below)

Then later Lotso dumps the toys into the incinerator. They escape that because the aliens used the claw to save them. It's just like the movie to a point. Obviously they cannot re-create the entire movie exactly because then the ice show would go on for hours and hours. All in all the show was great. Not all characters were included, I was hoping to at least see Big Baby, Chunk & Twitch.
The show ended with Lotso being taken away by a large hand with the recording from the movie when the man from the garbage truck found him. Finally Andy comes in and finds his box of toys and then picks up each one and says something special about each one and on the ice, one by one, each character poses and a light come on overhead.
Then all of the characters from the show including Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Donald came out for the encore.
It's a show definitely worth seeing, do go whether you have a kid or not. Great entertainment. There is so much more to the show, so much that I can't even remember each and every detail. See it for yourself:
